Maximizing Your Income: 7 Creative Ways to Utilize Amazon for Extra Cash

Unless you are part of the super-rich 1%, you are likely feeling the impact of the struggling economy. Prices of everyday necessities such as gas and food have skyrocketed, and the purchasing power you had three years ago has decreased significantly. Adding to the problem, salaries have been increasing at a very slow pace compared to the inflation rate, which has become a source of great discomfort for many. Sadly, this is not a story of slow and steady progress, as the rapid rise in prices has made it difficult for household income to keep up with the tough times.

That is why we are here today. Since the pandemic hit, many people have adopted an entrepreneurial mindset to supplement their income. Millions of individuals now earn passive income; their success stories are truly inspiring. As someone who is also trying to stay afloat in these challenging times, I have participated in several ventures to earn additional income. One popular platform that I have personally used is Amazon.

Today, I want to highlight some ways you can use Amazon to earn additional income. This is not for the faint of heart. It requires dedication, sacrifices, investment (time and money), getting out of your comfort zone and most of all patience.

I have listed 7 ways to earn income using Amazon and my experience with each. Check it out now.

Sell Products on Amazon:

You can become a third-party seller on Amazon and list your products for sale. This can be either through retail arbitrage (buying products at a low price and selling them for a profit) or by creating your own products.

My Experience: I am enrolling on Amazon Seller Central to sell beauty and houseware products through their Individual Plan. The registration process is a bit rigorous, but I understand the necessity of verifying the authenticity of potential sellers. I will detail the process and provide a review in the Summer. Stay tuned.

Publish eBooks:

If you're a writer, you can self-publish eBooks through Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) platform. This allows you to earn royalties on sales of your eBooks.

My Experience: I am a Blogger (case in point) and Author and published two books so far with KDP. The platform offers various advertisement packages to promote your book at a cost. As an independent unknown author with limited funds, it is hard to sell books without the backing of a publishing company. Genre also plays a big role in how well an author sells. My return on investment has been minimal on KDP however because my passion is writing, I will continue to publish books until "unknown" becomes "renown".

Publish Low Content Books:

A low-content book has minimal or no content on the interior pages. Low-content books are generally repetitive and designed to be filled in by the user. This can be journals, to-do lists, recipes, planners etc. Amazon allows for the publication of low content books and all you need to get started is your Amazon log in information and a good software to help you design these books.

My Experience: I have been selling low content books such as notebooks, journals, planners, and compositions on Amazon for over two years now. Although I have sold a few notebooks, it is not enough to consider it an additional income on its own. The market for low content books is highly saturated and you will be competing with thousands of sellers, including those who have already sold thousands of products and have high rankings on the algorithm. The only advantage is that creating low content books doesn't require a lot of time.

Affiliate Marketing:

Join the Amazon Associates program and promote Amazon products on your website, blog, or social media channels. You'll earn a commission for every sale made through your affiliate links.

My Experience: I joined the Amazon Associates program three years ago and promoted beauty and health products on my blog. I made some money through commissions, but the earnings were not significant. This program is more suitable for those with a large social media following and a high readership on their website or blog.

Amazon Mechanical Turk:

Participate in tasks on Amazon Mechanical Turk (MTurk), where you can perform small tasks for pay, such as data validation, content moderation, and surveys.

My Experience: I signed up for this a few days ago. I will detail the process and write an extensive review in the Summer

Create Merchandize with Merch by Amazon:

Design and upload your own T-shirt designs to be sold on Amazon. Amazon handles printing, shipping, and customer service, and you earn a royalty for each sale.

My Experience: I have not considered this avenue as yet, but never say never. For those of you who have - drop a review in the comment section below.

Participate in Amazon Handmade:

If you create handmade products, you can apply to sell them on Amazon Handmade. This platform is specifically for artisans to sell their unique, handcrafted goods.

My Experience: I will be launching my beauty brand "Julz Beauty Origin" hopefully this Summer. Stay tuned for more information.

Each of these methods requires different skills and levels of investment, so it's essential to research and choose the option that best aligns with your interests, resources, and goals.
